Over the weekend I was working in my garden for the first time since the early spring planting. I had planted many different veggies this year hoping for a wonderful bounty. Nothing is quite like the taste of fresh tomatoes. As I walked into my weed infested garden, which was far from what I had envisioned, I realized that I have to do a lot more then just plant the seeds and watch it grow. The sad thing is I do know this, I have been gardening for many years and have even produced award winning veggies at the county fair. Blue ribbons in fact! Pic 1 Pic 2 In order to get baskets full of award winning fresh veggies, I should have been out in the garden everyday observing, weeding, confronting the enemy, watering and pruning.
Gardens don’t grow themselves and if you think they do just take a look at what mine looks like not pretty. Flat out embarrassing! So what is the marketing lesson? Marketing takes an ongoing effort everyday if you want the payoff in a basketful of new clients. You must be observing your return, weeding out what does not work, stunning your competition, constantly feeding, and always be fine tuning. And it must be done daily. When it’s done on a regular basis you notice the small changes that occur, just like in gardening, if I only go out every week I will never notice the small red dots on the back of my squash. Those red dots become squash bugs that will kill off my squash pants in days. However, if I go out everyday and just observe, I will see them the first day they appear, and I can eliminate them before they are a problem.Stay tuned! I have a new goal for a fantastic fall garden. We will explore some of theses ideas together over the next few weeks and discover just how big of a bounty we can grow.We will start with Observing your Return. Your comments and questions are welcomed and encouraged. The more we have the livelier this will be.As my Garden Grows
