Most gardeners want to grow big fat juicy tomatoes, not always an easy task. There are many variables one must pay attention to if they are to achieve the results they desire. Where did you plant? What was the makeup of the soil? How much sunlight did your plants receive? How much did you water them? And so on.

It’s no different with marketing. You must keep great records and track how your business is generated. For most companies this requires a change in how you interact with your clients. Did they receive the direct mail piece or find you through Google? Did they see your ad? Did they see your ad, receive your direct mail, and then call you. It can get tricky.

For most of you, the answers to those questions are no where to be found. If you want to do one thing that can improve your marketing for next year start a simple spread sheet and find out where your business is coming from. Compare it to where you spend your marketing dollars and adjust accordingly. You will be surprised.
